Last week my cousin Marie sent me a box of pics that I had not seen in well over 10 years, I’ve now begun the process of scanning for archiving. I wanted to post a few of them since it’s the week of the anniversary of my dads passing.

Tivo HD \ With hard drive prices at rediculous levels, this one was a no brainer, I’ve been seeing how easy it’s supposed to be to upgrade Tivo boxes to larger hard drives for more recording time and thanks to a copy of MFSLive (See Here) it was literally a dozen screws, a cable hookup to a free SATA port on my PC and a little bit of time, 1 hour later from start to finish, I took my Tivo HD from a few hours of HD capacity to over 120 hours! This is the result after replacing the stock hard drive with a new “Green” 750Gig drive from Western Digital.

So the amazing animatronics show ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ played in Phoenix this week, and I tried to get tickets to take Hagan but the best seats available for the last show of the run on Sunday no less, were 70 bucks each, in the last row and Hagan had to pay full price!

So opting to save $140 bucks + Ticketmaster fee’s and parking downtown, we decided to play Walking with Dinosaurs, the home version, thanks in part to Lily, on loan for this limited engagement by Alicia, I think it was money well SAVED!

I was out in the garden and thought I was watching a hummingbird in the bushes in front of my home that was allowing me to get oddly close to it. In reality the hummingbird will not allow you to get within several yards of them, this creature was letting me get only a few inches from it with my camera lens. I was able to snap 2 really clean pics of this little guy and was very perplexed with it’s origin.

After a quick Google for Hummingbird, the auto-suggest in Google brought me to the Hummingbird Moth, the exact moth I captured in these images is actually “Hyles lineata” commonly known as the White Lined Sphinx Moth (See Here) which truly resembles a tiny hummingbird (at a short distance) but when up close will not only allow you to get within inches but will also charge you as if getting you to stay away from it’s plant source. I had hoped that I had discovered a new species in my garden but I guess that I just found something really cool.

As a reference, the flower this guy was taking a drink from is my Red Bird of Paradise and each flower is about the size of a quarter.
